Hello! My name is Katy and I am a writer, photographer, adventurer and outdoor enthusiast from the wilds of the Lancashire countryside.

I fell in love with the natural world when I was a small child. I had permanently scraped knees from climbing trees, rosy cheeks from running around after our family labrador and sparkling eyes that welcomed the sight of the forests, moors and hills of home. As I grew older, my thoughts turned to the wild and wonderful landscapes of the novels I devoured: I longed to wander the snaking corridors of Hogwarts and see the Great Hall decorated for Halloween, I wanted to stroll through The Shire and dance to folk music with the Hobbits, I yearned for the crisp snows of Narnia and the daemon companions of Lyra’s world. My love for fiction developed into a love for mythology and folklore, and I now combine those loves with my love of the natural world and channel all of this inspiration into my personal and professional work.

I studied BA English Literature and MA 19th Century Literature at the University of Sheffield, a university perched on the edge of the Peak District and the perfect place for my love for literature and my love for nature to grow and be nurtured. For my day job, I work as a freelancer and wear quite a few hats! I research, create content and manage the social media channels for Thryve, I write articles and blog posts for a variety of publications and sources and I sell prints of my photography. I am always looking for new clients to write for and brands to work with, so head to the contact page if you think I’d be a good match for your brand or publication: I’d love to hear from you!

I’ve also been working on my first novel, a YA folklore-inspired fantasy adventure story, the first in a trilogy. Writing fiction is one of my biggest passions and publishing these books is one of my main life-goals. Watch this space!

For the rest of the time, I’ll be exploring the UK and further afield with my boyfriend Arron, a qualified outdoor instructor (and my best friend/personal cheerleader/personal trainer/chief navigator) and soon we’ll be converting a van and then we’ll be full-time #vanlife-ers!. He will feature pretty heavily on this site, and increasingly so, as we move onto converting the van and start travelling around the UK and Europe together. From us, you’ll see kit reviews and plenty of adventure posts, mountain climbs, kayaking trips and a whole lot of fun.

Thank you for stopping by :)
