There She Wandered

There she wandered,
All alone she fared,
A ghost on the hilltop,
A spectre in the air.
She called out to sailors,
And to pirates and the kings,
She asked for nought but trust,
But held their hearts on strings.
She was a'feared of feeling lonely,
So the odd soul she'd steal,
To walk with her over moorland,
Until their hearts could no longer feel.
Then she'd fade away again,
A ghost, a memory, a wraith,
And leave the poor soul there alone,
Leaving nought but their faith
That they'd once wandered lonely,
With a girl long ago,
But whether she'd return to them,
How could they ever know?
